Early 20th Century Italian Plaster Dog Head Mounts
We are proud to offer a rare and very unusual set of 3 early 20th Century plaster dog head wall mounts. Recently obtained from a private fairground collector in Italy these items are one of the most unusual items we have had the privilege to own. Made from hand crafted plaster forms, mounted to carved wood plinths, hand painted individually and the unusual thing about these highly decorative examples is that their lower jaws are spring loaded so can be open and closed. The collector suggests these items would have at some point been objects displayed in a fairground environment and animated, so their mouths opened and closed as an attraction display. The reverse of the plinths is currently closed and the mechanism doesn’t show any connection to have these items animated currently, never the less they are very unusual, highly decorative and we can assure you that you won’t find any similar examples like them. The mounts all have holes in them so they can be hung from a wall as shown in the photos provided.
Size in inches approx.: H 10” x W 8” x D 9”
Age: Early 20th Century
These items show lots of age, wear and tear in the form of patina across the wooden and plaster surface. The plaster is flaked in areas, with old repairs and missing sections. One of the examples necks show that it could have cracked in the past but has been repaired respectfully and is firmly in place. All three items are structurally secure. 2 of the jaw movements are weak and one of these jaws hangs to the left as it come away from its supporting nail. The black dogs head however is still working perfectly and opens and closes with the spring still firmly in place. The paint has also cracked in places as you may expect from item of their age and obvious previous use. Its strongly suggested to view the photos provided and to propose questions where you are unsure of the condition before a purchase is considered. We truly feel the age of these items gives them the look, which is one of the reasons we obtained them.

What Our Customers Say
It was a pleasure to work with the House of Antiques on a recent project at the London Dungeon.
I was after antiques and oddities of a macabre, arcane nature and Harry’s stand-out selection – from human bones in glass jars to contorted wax heads – was exactly what I had in mind but couldn’t seem to find anywhere else. Harry himself made the whole process extremely personal and is really invested in each item he has collected, ensuring not only it is right for the project being undertook, but that the products are shipped safely and delivered on time.
I would not hesitate to recommend the House of Antiques to anyone, thanks for a straight-forward (and v cool) experience!Jasmine C
