Where thers muck

“Where thers muck thers money”

Description

A wonderful example of a unique folk-art scratch-built horse and cart model. This item is made from metal sheets, toleware and old enamel advertising signs. It would likely have been placed on a shop counter to obtain donations from customers. The carts cover is made from brass rivetted sheets and with the humorously spelt yet true saying of “Where thers muck thers money” handwritten across its surface. This item has two metal sheet horses with a single figure positioned on top, with chains and leather straps accessorising the object. Under sections of the chipped paint old enamel advertising sheets are visible. The item is static, yet the carts roof is removable which acts as the money box. Original painted surface showing a lovely patination. This object is full of character and in our opinion one of the best pieces of English folk-art we have uncovered in a long time, items large size makes it a real statement piece and piece of art. Untouched in form and recently uncovered in an old grocery store cellar in Devon.
